GCCA EPD Tool Version 6 is now live
The Global Cement and Concrete Association has launched Version 6 of the GCCA EPD Tool, marking a major step forward in supporting the cement and concrete industry to produce credible and consistent Environmental Product Declarations.
Environmental Product Declarations, or EPDs, provide transparent information about the environmental impacts of products based on life cycle assessment. As demand for reliable environmental product data continues to grow, manufacturers need efficient and credible ways to prepare EPDs that respond to customer, procurement and regulatory requirements.
The GCCA EPD Tool has been developed specifically for the cement and concrete sector. It supports the preparation of EPDs for aggregates, clinker, cement, concrete and precast products, providing a consistent sector methodology and helping users reduce the time, effort and cost involved in EPD development. The platform generates a draft EPD self-declaration and a detailed background report to support independent verification.
A new technical foundation
Version 6 introduces openLCA as the tool’s new calculation engine, providing a stronger and more scalable technical foundation for future development and digital integration.
The release incorporates the latest North American Product Category Rules for cement, updated GCCA GNR 2023 data, and a dedicated Australian market configuration. The Australian configuration includes regional electricity mixes and locally relevant default datasets, strengthening the tool’s applicability across different markets.
Version 6 also includes:
- More detailed material properties and updated background data
- Enhanced modelling of low-, medium- and high-voltage electricity
- Electricity inputs for mixing trucks
- Regionalised electricity data for construction activities
- Refinements to concrete recarbonation calculations
- An updated technical architecture to support future system connections and digital workflows
These improvements provide users with an updated platform for preparing environmental product information across the cement and concrete value chain.
Supporting credible and efficient EPD development
The GCCA EPD Tool provides an intuitive online process through which users can enter product and manufacturing data, calculate life cycle assessment results, and generate reports in an EPD format.
Its pre-verified calculation approach can help streamline third-party verification by providing a documented and consistent methodology. The tool also supports digital export in the ILCD+EPD format, helping environmental product information connect with digital EPD platforms and wider construction data systems.
By providing a common methodology and background data, the tool supports greater consistency and comparability across the sector. It is designed to help producers respond to the growing demand for credible environmental information while maintaining a practical and efficient EPD development process.
What existing users need to know
Existing users can access Version 6 through the new platform using their current username and password. Login details have not changed.
The previous and new versions of the tool will run in parallel for six months, providing a transition period during which users can familiarise themselves with Version 6 and begin using the new platform for their EPD work.
Looking ahead
Version 6 provides the foundation for the next phase of the GCCA EPD Tool’s development. GCCA will continue working to expand its regional relevance, strengthen engagement with EPD programme operators and verifiers, and improve the connections between the tool and the systems used by cement and concrete producers.
Future development will include exploring integration with company ERP and quality-control systems, supporting connections with third-party EPD solutions through the tool’s API, and strengthening pathways for EPD verification and publication. GCCA’s ambition is to develop the platform from an EPD calculation tool into trusted environmental product data infrastructure for the global cement and concrete sector.
Request a demonstration
If your organisation is preparing its first EPD or looking to make EPD production more efficient across multiple products and facilities, Version 6 provides an updated, sector-specific platform to support your work.
To learn more about the GCCA EPD Tool and see Version 6 in action, request a demonstration with a member of the GCCA team. Once you submit the form, we will contact you to arrange a meeting and provide a demonstration tailored to your organisation’s needs.
