GCCA EPD Tool Version 5.0 Release

Version 5.0 of the GCCA EPD Tool (International version) brought updated background data, a new waste indicator and updated characterisation factors, for more accurate and complete environmental assessments.

We are pleased to announce that Version 5.0 of the GCCA Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Tool (International version) is now live. This release includes several improvements that give users more accurate, complete and up-to-date results. Here is what has changed and what it means for you.

What is new in Version 5.0

1. Background database updated to ecoinvent 3.10

Version 5.0 now uses version 3.10 of the ecoinvent database. The update brings in the latest background data, reflecting recent changes in technology and environmental data across many sectors. Users can expect more reliable life cycle assessment results.

2. Radioactive waste disposed indicator

The tool now calculates radioactive waste disposed, making the results more complete and better aligned with the indicators required in EPDs.

3. Characterisation factors updated to EF 3.1

Characterisation factors have been updated in line with the Environmental Footprint (EF) 3.1 reference package. This keeps the tool aligned with current international practice for impact assessment and supports users working in markets that follow European EPD standards.
